Man Repeller’s creator is already considering what to wear for 2020’s New Year’s Eve. Leandra Medine created a limited-edition capsule collection for Mango, incorporating her varied personal Own Style into a range that is both shoppable and approachable. More than thirty designs and accessories are available in Medine’s collection, which ranges from stylish festive pieces to practical everyday wear.
At the Soho launch party for the project, Medine tells Refinery29 that “the inspiration is literally written on the floor.” “New Year’s Eve in a European ski town among recent college graduates from a New England university in the 1960s was the prompt that I submitted to Mango.”

That was the period of nice, tight, stiff pants and cardigans for Medine. “I wanted to combine that with a glamorous and European flair.” She says, “I really enjoy sleeping in and getting dressed up to stay at home.” “It’s the most extravagant and decadent thing to dress for—a New Year’s Eve party at home.”
It’s also a simple way for new parents to join in on the joyous holiday festivities, says Medine. When we questioned the style icon if being a mother had affected her personal style in any way, she said that it had actually become more obvious.
“For me, style is a very important way to express myself; it goes beyond just clothes; it plays a big role in how I express my identity in my life,” the woman claims. Losing my sense of style would be equivalent to losing my identity, and I believe that having a child has only made me more confident and self-assured. In the past, I have also utilized fashion and my wardrobe to define my identity. My identity is much more firmly established now.
It would be an understatement to suggest that Medine turned her passion for personal style into a career. She has written a collection of personal writings on the subject and collaborated with Superga, PJK, Atea Oceanie, and others in addition to her website. Barneys New York, which filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, hosted one of her book launch parties in New York.

For personal reasons mostly, I’m sad to hear that Barney’s is closing since it symbolizes so much of growing up and what I wanted to be when I was younger, says Medine. “I yearned to be involved in the fashion industry’s sausage-making so badly. I wanted to be a part of the process because I knew that individuals made it happen. From that perspective, it’s unfortunate. Retail is in a state of change. Retail is not dying, in my opinion; it is not capable of dying.
At the moment, Medine is particularly enthusiastic and focused on Leandra Medine x Mango, a completely sustainable collection that took six weeks to develop. She states, “Everything we produced together was sourced from the factory, and Mango has some significant initiatives on the sustainability from the factories they work with.”
The line will extend to a European size 50 (Mango typically stops at a 42), but Medine claims that several components were dropped since they couldn’t put it together in time. “Man Repeller is a very inclusive brand, so I think the collection—which is very different for Mango—is really important to me,” says Medine. “This is meant to be an inclusive collection.”
